The eleventh European Conference of the International Association of Science Parks (IASP) will be held in Madeira, Portugal, from 17 to 20 September 1997. The theme of the conference is "Science parks, multimedia, Information Society and environment".

The programme will include a number of presentations and discussions on the contribution which Science Parks can make to the European Community's regional, economic and social policies. Three sub-themes will form the focus of each day's debate:

- Global trends;
- Tenants' needs and science park networks;
- Environment-oriented science park networks.

Speakers will include Mr. Eneko Landaburu, Director-General of the European Commission (DG XVI - Regional policy and cohesion) and Mr. José Pato from the Commission's Information Society Project Office (ISPO). Other speakers will include representatives of major European companies active in the information and communications technologies field, and representatives of local and regional agencies involved in developing or managing science parks.
