Second World Conference on Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conversion
By inviting representatives from South America and Africa to participate in the Scientific Committee, a world-wide integration of all important photovoltaic communities will be realized. The subjects will cover all aspects from basic cell research to terrestrial and space applications.
The 2nd Photovoltaic World Conference will take place at a time when the huge potential for rural electrification by means of photovoltaic systems is being increasingly acknowledged by decision makers in both the public and the private sectors. A special topic, which will be organized in conjunction with the World Bank, will highlight this important application field. In the industrialized countries building-integrated PV-systems are increasing tremendously in both numbers and in size. Several buildings with MW-sized PV-generators are currently under construction. Examples of architectural integration, as well as recent trends in system technology, will be presented in this sector. Recent advances in the solar PV-cell sector will also be highlighted, together with progress in cost reduction in the manufacturing processes.
The conference will be organized in such a way as to encourage dialogue between researchers, developers, users and providers, financing and political institutions. The five-day programme will comprise plenary lectures presenting the state-of-the-art in PV, oral and poster presentations of specific research, demonstration and development projects, and an exhibition of PV products and services.
Papers are currently being invited on the following topics:
- Fundamentals, novel devices and new materials (theoretical studies, innovative concepts, organic materials, thermo-photovoltaics);
- Crystalline silicon solar cells and technologies (including mono- and multicrystalline silicon cells and materials, thin film crystalline silicon cells, processing technology of feed-stock, wafers, sheets, ribbons and cells);
- Thin film cells and technologies (including amorphous silicon and polycrystalline thin film cells, film preparation, material characterization and theoretical studies);
- PV modules and components of PV systems (including encapsulation, reliability, production technology, standards and testing of cells, modules and arrays, concentrator systems, power conditioning, grid interfacing, storage, system design and control);
- Grid-connected systems, including building integration and their applications (integration in buildings, utility issues and development of standard products);
- Stand-alone systems and their applications, including applications in rural areas;
- Implementation and financing schemes for market deployment in industrial and developing countries including financing, inter-regional cooperation, industrial production, social and environmental benefits and legal issues;
- Space cells and systems, including III-V cells.
Accepted papers will be presented in oral and poster sessions and all accepted papers will also be published in the Book of Proceedings. The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 1 December 1997.
