The 10th European conference and technology exhibition on "Biomass for Energy and Industry" will take place in Wurzburg, Germany, from 8 to 11 June 1998. The event is being organized by the Central Agrarian Raw Material Marketing and Development Network (CARMEN), WIP-Munich and ETA-Florence, with support from the European Commission.

In addition to covering all new aspects of conversion technologies, cultivation and preparation of biomass, this conference will focus particularly on market exploitation opportunities and securing a greater share in the heat, electricity and transportation fuel markets. Information relating to the use of solid biomass will also be presented.

The four day conference programme will comprise plenary lectures describing the state-of-the-art in biomass technology; oral and poster presentations of specific research, development and demonstration projects; an exhibition of biomass products, biomass utilization and conversion; and scientific tours. In addition, a number of political and strategic workshops on specific issues related to biomass and bioenergy technology deployment will be organized, involving invited key political decision makers.

Papers are presently being invited on the following topics:

- Worldwide strategies for biomass;
- Biomass-derived industrial products and materials;
- Timber and wood-based materials in the building sector;
- Biomass energy crops and residues;
- Combustion of biomass;
- Advanced thermochemical conversion processes and novel applications;
- Biofuel production and utilization in the transportation market;
- Biogas;
- Implementation issues.

The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 15 September 1997. All accepted papers will be presented in oral and poster sessions and will also be published in the Book of Proceedings.
