Analytical methods for algae in fresh water
The course, organized by the "Azienda Mediterranea Gas e Acqua" (IT), is part of a series of five European Training Courses, coordinated by TECHWARE (BE) and supported by the Community's Standards, Measurements and Testing (SMT) research programme.
The aim of the course is to provide an overview of the state-of-the-art of determination methods of algae, protozoa and helminths in fresh and distributed water. The course will also offer some practical experience of sampling, concentration and identification techniques, as well as an opportunity to exchange knowledge between teachers and participants from different European countries.
The topics to be covered will include:
- Drinking water policy and sanitary issues;
- Monitoring strategies;
- Sampling, storage and detection of algae, protozoa and helminths;
- Viability of Giardia and Cryptosporidium;
- Immunofluorescence assay method;
- Polymerase chain reaction;
- Quality assurance in laboratory practice.
The course is aimed at researchers, scientific staff from industry, state and commercial laboratories, as well as at undergraduate and graduate students.
