A series of information days concerning the final call for proposals for the THERMIE (demonstration) component of the Non-nuclear Energy research programme (JOULE/THERMIE) will be held in the United Kingdom in October 1997. The series is organized by ETSU, a division of AEA Technology plc, on behalf of the Department of Trade and Industry.

The final THERMIE call is expected to be launched on 16 September 1997, with over ECU 100 million likely to be available to support demonstration projects. Proposals will be invited for projects in fields such as rational use of energy in buildings, industry and transport; renewable energies, including photovoltaics, wind, biomass and waste, small-scale hydro and geothermal; clean production of electricity from solid fuels (conventional and advanced cycles); and hydrocarbons (exploration, production, transport of oil and gas, natural gas technologies and software products).

The roadshows will include presentations from representatives of the European Commission (DG XVII), the DTI, ETSU and the OPET network (Organizations for the Promotion of Energy Technology). They will be held as follows:

- London: 6 October 1997;
- Glasgow: 7 October 1997;
- Manchester: 8 October 1997;
- Bristol: 9 October 1997;
- London: 10 October 1997.
