A EUREKA Brokerage Event on "Fruit and vegetable technologies - From raw materials to packaged products" will take place in Porto, Portugal, on 13-14 November 1997.

The main objective of the EUREKA Brokerage Events is to provide a forum in which companies and research institutes can:

- Exchange information and views on their technological field;
- Establish international contacts and find partners;
- Stimulate innovative R&D cooperation projects;
- Assist partners with applications for funding.

This event focuses on one particular area of the agrifood sector: fruit and vegetables. The fruit and vegetables sector is facing increasing challenges from greater demands in terms of quality and product safety, increasing market needs and environmental requirements. New technologies and methodologies currently being developed could help them meet some of these challenges and reach new targets.

The proposed topics for the event include a wide range of project ideas in this area and related sectors, such as plant production. These are organized according to three major types of fruit and vegetable product: fresh, minimally processed and processed. For each type of product two workshops are planned. The issues of quality and safety, though not specifically referred to, underlie all topics.
