Practical Application Expo '98

The Third Practical Application Expo, PA EXPO'98, will take place in London, UK, from 23 to 27 March 1998. The event will, as in previous years, incorporate four major conferences focusing on the practical application of various information processing technologies:

- PAAM'98 - The Third International Conference on the Practical Application of Intelligent Agent and Multi Agent Technology:

PAAM'98 will focus on the central questions:
. How is agent technology overcoming today's business problems?;
. The developments we expect to see in the future;
. What are the tangible benefits of investing in agents?;
. The new opportunities agents provide and where the potential pitfalls lie.

- PAP/PACT'98 - The Sixth International Conference on the Practical Application of Prolog/The Fourth International Conference on the Practical Application of Constraint Technology:

The PAP/PACT conference and exhibition is the premier forum for Prolog and constraint application and systems. Now in their sixth and fourth years respectively, this joint conference builds on the success of previous years and continues to demonstrate the benefits of using Prolog and constraint for solving real-world problems. PAP/PACT will focus on the growing industrial exploitation of these technologies, explore the tangible benefits for business and identify future trends.

- PADD'98: The Second International Conference on the Practical Application of Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining:

PADD'98 will focus on:

. Innovative knowledge discovery and data mining techniques applied to standard domains;
. New applications for standard techniques;
. Business problems and tangible benefits derived from KDD;
. How implementation problems have been solved and how benefits can be measured;
. Why knowledge discovery and data mining have proven the best solutions to business problems.

- PAKeM'98 - The First International Conference on the Practical Application of Knowledge Management:

A new event initiated in recognition of the emerging level of interest in knowledge management. Knowledge management (KM) is rapidly being recognized as an essential business tool to locate, organize, transfer and use the information and expertise within an organization.

The aim of the conference is to examine, discuss and develop solutions for the management of this knowledge by addressing areas such as:

. Strategic management of knowledge;
. Knowledge as a means of maintaining competitive advantage;
. Process re-engineering through knowledge management;
. Knowledge as a means for unlocking and maximizing an organization's assets;
. Provision of timely access to relevant knowledge;
. Maintaining security of sensitive information;
. How to quantify the intangible assets of your organization.

The organizers of PA EXPO '98, The Practical Application Company, are presently inviting the submission of papers or industrial reports describing current or near-term practical applications of agent, data mining, knowledge management, logic and/or constraint programming technology. The deadline for the submission of papers is 5 December 1997.

The conferences are being sponsored, among others, by Compulog Net, the European Network of Excellence in Computational Logic established under the Community's specific RTD programme in the field of Information Technologies (ESPRIT).
