Belgium
A European event on "Promoting sustainable development and Local Agenda 21" will be held in Brussels, Belgium, on 24 and 25 November 1997. It is organized by the European Sustainable Cities and Towns Campaign, with support from the European Commission (DG XI) and the City of Aalborg.

The event will open with the presentation of the 1997 European Sustainable City Award. The main part of the event will focus on three aspects:

- A partner forum, giving local authorities a chance to meet with each other and with European Commission officials;
- Definition of a strategic plan for the future of the Sustainable Cities and Towns Campaign;
- Discussion of the future of EU urban policy, in particular in the light of the recent Commission communication "Towards an urban agenda in the EU".
