The first World Congress of Environmental and Resource Economists will be held in Venice, Italy, from 25 to 27 June 1998. The congress is organized by the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists and the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, in cooperation with the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei.

The congress will offer the opportunity to discuss the latest research, and encourage the development of networks of economists working in the field of environmental and natural resources. The following areas will be covered in the conference, and the organizers are now inviting the submission of proposals for papers on these topics:

- Environmental regulation;
- Environment and development;
- Urban environmental problems;
- Empirical modelling of the economy and the environment;
- Environment and technology;
- Natural resource studies;
- Valuation and cost benefit analysis;
- International environmental issues;
- Economic theory and the environment;
- Environment politics and law;
- Regional and country studies.
