Securing the electronic market space
The Open Group Forum aims to publicly raise the debate on issues surrounding the advent of the electronic market place, in particular with regard to security aspects and public confidence building.
The main topics to be addressed will include:
- Security:
. Single sign-on;
. Supporting large-scale security;
. Public key;
- Distributed objects:
. Object models;
. ActiveX/DCOM;
. CORBA;
. C++ bindings;
- Internet:
. Infrastructure of services to solve business problems;
. Solving Inter/Intranet security using DCE;
. JAVA and DCE;
- DCE applications and use:
. Customer case studies in all major industry segments;
. DFS-based technology solutions;
. Automating server operations with DCECP and the DCED;
. DCE administration using DCECP;
. DCE administration using GUIs;
. Gateways for non-DCE applications.
A keynote speech on "European initiatives to encourage the electronic market space" will be delivered by Mr. Detlef Eckert of DG XIII of the European Commission. In addition, Mr. Paul Timmers of DG III, Head of Sector responsible for "Electronic Commerce for SMEs" will chair the session on "Creating a trusted environment for electronic commerce in Europe".
The SEMPER (Secure Electronic Marketplace in Europe) project, supported under the Community's specific programme for Advanced Communication Technologies and Services (ACTS), will be presented by Mr. Michael Waidner of IBM. This project aims at providing open and comprehensive solutions for secure electronic commerce over the Internet and other public information networks.
