A conference on "Electronic commerce in Europe" will take place in Brussels, Belgium, on 16 and 17 October 1997. The event, which is organized by the European Multimedia Forum, will bring together experts from across Europe to discuss the latest developments in electronic commerce technology and policy issues concerning electronic commerce.

The themes for the three main sessions of the conference will be as follows:

- Demonstrations of technologies and projects developed and/or implemented in Europe;
- The Commission's strategy for the development and implementation of electronic commerce in Europe;
- Legal and regulatory issues related to electronic commerce in Europe.

A number of presentations will be made by officials of the European Commission. These will address topics such as interoperability, standards, development of trans-European telecommunications networks, data protection, electronic payment and digital signatures.
