The OPENGIS'97 Symposium on Interoperable Geoprocessing will take place in Strasbourg, France, on 11-12 November 1997. The symposium is organized by the Open GIS Consortium, an international association of over 100 public and private-sector organizations dedicated to the development of an industry architecture for the interoperation of distributed geospatial applications.

The aim of the symposium will be to promote greater European participation in the OGC's open consensus process, aimed at creating the OpenGIS Specification - an architecture which enables transparent, vendor independent, real-time access to diverse geodata and geoprocessing resources in network computing environments. The event will focus particularly on the OGC's working relationship with the European Commission (DG III) and highlight opportunities for European corporations and SMEs to work within the OGC open consensus process.
