A seminar on "Natural language in information processing - A commercial perspective" will be held in Heathrow, UK, on 8-9 October 1997. The seminar, which is being organized by UNICOM Seminars and is co-sponsored by the European Commission (DG XIII), will focus on the role of natural language technologies in managing and assimilating the flood of information generated by the explosive growth of the information industry.

The seminar will cover a range of commercial and near-commercial systems utilizing Natural Language Processing (NLP). It will also present projects and research results which, in the near future, will lead to extensive application of NLP to the information industry, such that, computers will no longer treat documents as mere words on a page but will understand what we mean when we write or speak. This will bring a whole new dimension to how we share information and knowledge.
