The European Software Institute (ESI) and International Software Consulting Network (ISCN) 1997 conference will take place in Budapest, Hungary, from 10 to 12 November 1997. The conference theme will be "Cooperation and business opportunities for Eastern/Western European countries in the IT field - Practical improvement of software processes and products".

Following the introductory session, in which an participants will be given outline of business and cooperation opportunities in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as a round-up of the state of software best practice in the region, the following topics will be covered:

- Strategic alliances and business opportunities;
- Learning strategies;
- Information systems for effective process improvement collaboration;
- Industrial experience.

Presentations will be given by officials from the European Commission, as well as by representatives from projects funded by the Community, including programmes such as INCO-COPERNICUS, LEONARDO DA VINCI and ESPRIT. In addition to the conference sessions, a number of tutorials will be held on 10 November. These will address particular topics in more detail.
