Dismantling the barriers to global electronic commerce
Electronic commerce is expanding rapidly, led by the development of new generation information and communications infrastructures and services. Based on the rapid development of the Internet, electronic commerce has been, and will continue to be, driven by the private sector. However, it is widely recognized that in order to realize its full potential a number of barriers will need to be dismantled, and the uncertainties which have deterred suppliers, producers, intermediaries, merchants and consumers from using electronic commerce must be resolved.
Many of these barriers and uncertainties relate to government regulations or policies which need to be reformed in order to permit the rapid and non-discriminatory development of this new mode of commerce. The aim of the conference is to contribute to international understanding of the basic principles underlying policies concerning electronic commerce. A second objective is to bring together key players to facilitate coordination between international bodies. On the basis of this, an action plan may be devised which minimizes duplication of work and allows implementation of solutions in a coordinated and coherent manner.
Due to limited facilities, attendance at the conference is by invitation only. Interested parties should contact the relevant contact listed below.
