INNO Forum '97, a series of conferences and workshops on innovation, research and development, and intellectual property protection, will take place in Brussels, Belgium, from 17 to 21 November 1997.

The event is designed to bring together people from a wide range of backgrounds, including industry, universities, research institutes, trade associations and the professions from throughout Europe, with a common interest in innovation. Speakers will include senior officials from the European Commission, legal practitioners, and representatives of organizations involved in innovation throughout Europe.

The main conference will provide an update on European policy in the following areas:

- The Innovation Action Plan;
- International cooperation;
- The future of patent protection in the EU;
- Dissemination of information;
- Finance and innovation;
- Innovation strategies and policy for SMEs;
- Cooperation between public research bodies, universities and enterprises.

Three further conferences will be held during the week, covering:

- Collaborative research projects: Intellectual property, competition law, contractual and other issues;
- Outsourcing research and development;
- Focus on biotechnology.

In addition, three workshops are to be held:

- Intellectual property protection and exploitation;
- Technology transfer update;
- Model EU R&D contracts workshop.
