The 23rd General Assembly of the European Geophysical Society will take place in Nice, France, from 20 to 24 April 1998.

The European Geophysical Society (EGS) is an independent scientific organization for the promotion of the earth, planetary and space sciences on a disciplinary and interdisciplinary pan-European international level. The sciences encompassed by the EGS cover an extremely broad spectrum with research topics ranging from the study of the earth's core to planetary evolution, involving applications in physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, engineering, electronics and computer sciences.

The scientific programme to the EGS General Assembly 1998 includes about 240 sessions encompassing: solid earth geophysics; geodesy; hydrology; oceans and atmosphere; solar-terrestrial sciences; planetary and solar system sciences; non-linear processes in geophysics; and natural hazards.

The conference will be accompanied by an exhibition of the most important European publishers and a selection of important companies active in this sector. In addition, a new feature of the 1998 General Assembly will be the organization of the EGS Job Centre. This service will provide scientists seeking employment, and representatives of organizations and/or companies announcing vacancies, with an opportunity to meet and exchange information.
