The Open GIS Consortium has announced the cancellation of the OPENGIS'97 Symposium on Interoperable Geoprocessing, due to take place in Strasbourg, France, on 11-12 November 1997.

The symposium will be replaced by a series of one-day seminars to be held in cities across Europe. The consortium believes that this approach will be better adapted to reaching its objective: informing Europeans in a variety of sectors - industry, SMEs, academia, and local, regional and national government - about the commercial potential and institutional benefits of interoperable geoprocessing.

The seminars are planned to take place in 1998. No dates or venues have as yet been set.
