A high-level one-day conference entitled "A European strategy for electronic commerce - What rules and policies for the online revolution?" will be held in Brussels, Belgium, on 28 October 1997. The conference is being organized by Forum Europe and the UK law firm Norton Rose, in association with the European Commission (DG III).

The event will bring together business leaders and senior EU and national officials to discuss current and future Internal Market and trans-Atlantic Internet policy development. The conference has been carefully structured to allow time for participants to discuss their views and interests with decision-makers.

The conference programme will feature the following main topic areas:

- Signposts to EU thinking;
- The regulatory role of the private sector;
- Europe's winners and losers: what policies for SMEs;
- Towards global rules for the international marketplace.
