FACTOR 4+ - Sustainable production technologies, products and services

The FACTOR 4+ Congress and Trade Fair, the first international congress and trade fair on sustainable production technologies, products and services, will take place in Klagenfurt, Austria, from 17 to 21 June 1998.
The event is intended to promote the objective of sustainable development to which the countries of the earth committed themselves at Rio de Janeiro in 1992. It will highlight the Factor 4+ approach, developed by a group of international experts as a contribution to the work of the high-level international think-tank, the "Club of Rome".
The Factor 4+ approach is aimed at resolving the contradictions between environment protection and economy. The core of the idea is the question of how products and services can be provided with a minimum of materials and energy. The formula Factor 4+ indicates the need to improve the exploitation of available raw materials by a factor of 4 to 10 (Factor 4+) in order to maintain or improve our wealth, whilst at the same time maintaining an intact environment.
The Congress and Trade Fair will showcase "Factor 4+" technologies representing a quadrupling or more of resource productivity.
