A European conference on "Business opportunities in genomic research" will be held in Turin, Italy, from 30 March to 1 April 1998. The conference is being organized on the initiative of the European Yeast Industry Platform (YIP), and is supported by the European Commission within the context of its specific RTD programme in the field of Biotechnology (BIOTECH).

YIP was established in 1991 in order to stimulate interactions and open possibilities to derive economic benefits from the implementation of EU-funded projects in the field of yeast genomic research. The conference will provide participants with the opportunity to meet the leaders of European businesses involved in genomics and to discuss European challenges in this field.

The conference will, in particular, include a showcase for practical examples and sessions devoted to specific key issues in the EU, such as intellectual property, venture capital and technology transfer from academic research.
