A brokerage event focusing on water management in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, "Water - Source of life, source of danger", will be held in Cracow, Poland, from 4 to 6 March 1998.

Aimed at representatives from industry, research institutions and public authorities, the event will offer a platform for all key players and decision makers to discuss developments and opportunities in the field of water management and flood prevention with each other and with representatives of the European Commission. Participants will be provided with information on the following main areas:

- The approximation of policy in the Republic of Poland to EU legislation and standards in the fields of potable and waste water management, as well as assessment and prevention of flood disasters;

- The support provided by the European Commission to the approximation process in Poland and in other candidate countries for accession to the EU;

- The possibilities for international cooperation within existing European platforms, with particular emphasis on the possibilities offered by the Community's Fifth RTD Framework Programme.

The event is being organized by the Polish EUREKA Office, in close cooperation with the EUREKA Offices from the Czech Republic and Austria and the BIT-Secretariat for Central and Eastern Europe (Austria). There will also be participation by PHARE representatives in Poland and the Austrian Innovation Relay Centre.
