The First European - Latin American Summit of Artisans will be held in Zaragoza, Spain, from 6 to 10 May 1998. The event, which is supported by the EU within the framework of the AL-INVEST programme for business cooperation and partnership with Latin America, is expected to attract some 2,000 companies from 35 European and Latin American countries.

The main objectives of the Summit include:

- To provide a Forum for debate and the exchange of ideas on the main problems facing the craft sector in Europe and in Latin America, and establishing specific recommendations for dealing with these problems;
- To provide information on European Union activities relating to the craft sector and to cooperation with the countries of Latin America;
- To provide a meeting point for companies and business organizations from different countries of the two continents;
- To promote transnational cooperation between European and Latin American craft companies in all fields of activity.
