An international conference on "Industrial Structure, Innovation Dynamics and Technology Policy" will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 16-17 October 1998. The conference is being organized by the Institute for New Technologies of the United Nations University (UNU/INTECH) and is supported by the European Commission.

The aim of the conference is to provide an opportunity for an exchange of views on existing ideas and concepts derived from three distinct research perspectives:

- The appreciative theory of technological change;
- The economics of industrial dynamics and macroeconomic growth;
- The "systemic" views on learning, institutions and competitiveness.

Papers are invited on the following themes:

- Industrial structure and technological change;
- Firms, market structure and competitiveness;
- Comparative reviews and sectoral studies;
- Innovation dynamics, diffusion of knowledge and growth;
- Institutional changes, learning and economic behaviour.

The deadline for the submission of papers (one-page abstracts) is 25 May 1998.
