PROLAMAT'98 - Globalization of manufacturing in the digital era

PROLAMAT'98, an international conference on "The globalization of manufacturing in the digital communications era of the 21st century - Innovation, agility and the virtual enterprise" will take place in Trento, Italy, on 9-11 September 1998. The conference, part of an internationally renowned series, is organized this year by the University of Trento (Italy), under the aegis of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) (Working Groups 5.2 and 5.3).

The main focus of the conference will be on demonstrating and evaluating activities and progress in the field of discrete manufacturing. It includes the whole area of advanced software technology for design and manufacturing in discrete manufacturing. Three central themes will be emphasized:

- Sharing experience gained from telecommunication use in industry for agility and innovation;
- Human and machine communications, modelling, standard representations, reuse;
- Telecommunication and agility impact on software technology for discrete manufacturing.

The conference is supported by the European Commission (DGs III and XIII).
