A four-day training course on "R&D programme evaluation - Methods, experiences and new approaches" will be held in Enschede, The Netherlands, from 16 to 19 February 1998. The course, organized by the University of Twente (NL) is intended essentially for R&D evaluators and government officials.

The four-day programme will include lectures by experts in R&D evaluation, study of case material in small groups and international exchange of experiences. The aim is to provide an introduction to and overview of R&D evaluation and an opportunity for in-depth discussion of key issues and methods. Systematic approaches to the design of R&D evaluation will be put forward and policy contexts of evaluation discussed.

The course is an initiative of a network of experts in R&D evaluation, initially formed under the Community's SPEAR programme in the field of strategic analysis, forecasting and evaluation in matters of research and technology (1989-1993). Course teachers will be drawn from a core of experienced European R&D evaluators.
