PATLIB'98 - Ninth European Patent Information Conference

PATLIB'98, the Ninth European Patent Information Conference, will take place in Alicante, Spain, from 27 to 29 May 1998. The conference is being organized by the European Patent Office (EPO), in collaboration, this year, with the Oficina Espanola de Patentes y Marcas.

Themes to be covered in the 1998 PATLIB symposium (attendance by invitation only) include:

- Patent information in Spain;
- Developments in information technology and communication affecting the distribution of patent information;
- European initiatives;
- Regional aspects.

A public programme comprising seminars and an exhibition will be organized to raise awareness of the importance of information and intellectual property in innovation. The public seminar programme will focus on the theme "Patent information for innovation", and special sessions will be held for SMEs on the commercial exploitation of intellectual property. Experts from industry, academia and local, national and international authorities will be amongst the speakers.

In addition, a hands-on training programme covering all aspects of information retrieval - with special relevance to patent information - including online, CD-ROM and Internet will be organized.
