"Information Society in the 21st Century" is the title of a major conference, taking place in Magdeburg, Germany, from 26 to 28 February 1998. The conference, hosted by the region of Saxony-Anhalt, will look at the "Chances and challenges for a region undergoing regeneration".

Mr. Martin Bangemann, European Commissioner for industry, whose brief covers the Information Society, along with the Prime Minister of Saxony-Anhalt, Dr. Reinhard Hoppner, will debate the role of companies and their opportunities in the Information Society with leading players in the field.

The main topics to be covered by the conference are as follows:

- Managing the economy and society of tomorrow;
- Opportunities and challenges for politicians;
- Citizens in the Information Society.
