TERENA Networking Conference 1998
With the approach of the third millennium, governments and the European Union are promoting the development of the Information Society in which networking services are of crucial importance to public services, business and the citizen. New communication services are now essential facilities for all sectors of society. From these, new business models are emerging and traditional organizations are re-inventing themselves to adapt to the new environment. Universities and research institutes face a major challenge to adapt and succeed in this new networked world.
The TERENA Networking conference will address these and related issues, with particular reference to the education and research sectors. The conference will include both presentations and debate/discussion sessions. The main topics will be as follows:
- What's new? - New technologies and applications as a prerequisite or basis for new services;
- Users! - Cooperation and interaction of various network communities, information explosion and networking tools;
- For sale - security across the Internet, electronic commerce, networked administration and personal information in the education sector;
- Europe and beyond - national and international network policy issues and competition.
The organizers are seeking papers for presentation at the conference, as well as proposals for presentations and tutorials. The deadline for submission is 20 February 1998.
