A workshop on advanced human-computer interfaces will take place in Dublin, Ireland, on 14 and 15 May 1998. The event is organized by the Standardization sector of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

The focus of the event is the human-computer interface, at which all computing processes start and finish. The ITU aims to bring together experts in the field to identify:

- Human-computer interfaces for managing telecommunications systems, and;
- Software architectures and middleware for human-computer interfaces that can profit from standardization.

The event will address the management of the global information infrastructure. The success of this infrastructure will depend on its manageability - an extremely challenging area for human-computer interface design. Since this field is not covered by existing telecoms standardization groups, the ITU wishes to investigate what standardization is required.

The organizers are interested in receiving papers for possible submission at the workshop. The deadline for submission of papers is 23 February 1998.
