A European seminar on "Teleinformatics links between ports and their partners" will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 12 June 1998. Organized within the framework of COST (European Cooperation in the Field of Scientific and Technical Research), the seminar will present and discuss the results, conclusions and recommendations of COST Action 330 - Teleinformatics links between ports and their partners.

COST 330 brings together experts from 15 countries to assess how Information Technologies (IT) can address/improve port trading requirements in a global logistics system. Collating information on existing and planned developments of IT in 106 European port communities, COST 330:

- Reviews and assesses the development of strategies for interconnecting sea and inland ports with their partners, in order to better integrate freight transport operations;

- Defines trends for the mid-term telematic needs of ports and their partners;

- Designs a set of recommendations allowing for the development of actions to enhance and facilitate the use of telematics (including EDI) in waterborne transport.

The main themes of the seminar will include:

- Information Systems and Telecommunications in port communities: present situation and planned developments;
- The use of electronic data interchange (EDI): strategies for interconnecting and experience of port
partners;
- Dangerous cargo management;
- Emerging technologies and scenarios for telematic links in port communities;
- Conclusions and recommendations of COST 330: Discussion with a panel of experts and all participants.

The seminar is open to all companies, authorities and representatives with a professional interest in the topics above (port authorities, stevedoring companies, forwarders, shippers, customs authorities, railways and trucking companies, etc.). The Final Report of COST 330 will be published and provided at the seminar.
