An international conference on "Quality assurance within engineering higher education", EQAS'98, will take place in Zakopane, Poland, from 13 to 16 September 1998.

The conference, the second in a series initiated in 1996, is organized by the Cracow University of Mining and Metallurgy (Poland), in collaboration with the GKN International College of Engineering (Lohmar, Germany), Glasgow Caledonian University (UK), the European Association for Quality in Education and Monash University (Australia).

The main topics to be covered by the conference will include:

- Quality management teaching in engineering education;
- Quality assurance of courses/validation elements related to quality;
- New learning technologies (multimedia, computer-aided teaching, open and distance learning);
- Quality in engineering education as business unit;
- Evaluation and quality tools;
- Impact of quality of effective funding;
- TQM - Credibility with respect to universities, employees and public authorities and its impact on academic and professional recognition;
- Strategic planning and quality.

Papers are invited for submission by 15 March 1998 at the latest.
