An advanced study course on "Hydro- and morphodynamic processes in coastal seas" will be held in Renesse, The Netherlands, from 28 June to 11 July 1998. The course, organized by Dr. T. Gerkema of the University of Utrecht, is part of a series supported by the Community's specific RTD programme in the field of Marine Science and Technology (MAST).

The aim of the course is to provide participants with a coherent overview of current knowledge with regard to hydro- and morphodynamic processes in coastal seas and estuaries. Various morphologic phenomena will be dealt with, including tidal ridges, sand waves, ripples and near-shore bars. Particular attention will be paid to applied stability techniques in which a morphologic pattern is conceived as a manifestation of a free instability of the coupled hydro/morphodynamic system.

The course is intended for PhD students and young scientists interested in the mathematical modelling of processes in coastal seas and estuaries.
