Renewable energy on roofs and facades - The changing roofs of Europe
An essential venue for all involved in modern building construction and architectural design, the conference will examine the potential impact of increasing use of renewable energy sources for the design of European roofs, the architectural implications, the construction of renewable energy elements, and the consequences for traditional roofing materials.
In addition to a full programme of lectures and workshops, the European Commissioner for energy policy, Mr. Christos Papoutsis, has been invited to present the EU's ALTENER II programme for the promotion of renewable energy sources. ALTENER II will continue the activities supported under ALTENER I and introduce new measures aimed at mobilizing private investments and facilitating market penetration of renewable energy sources. Once formally adopted, the programme is expected to run for a period of five years. The Commissioner will also present the EU's White Paper on Renewable Energy adopted in November 1997.
The main themes of the conference will be:
- Roofing materials;
- Photovoltaic applications;
- Solar thermal water heating;
- Water retention;
- Roofing design;
- Meeting energy efficient targets;
- Sustainable building elements.
An exhibition of roofing materials and services will be held in parallel to the conference. Companies interested in exhibiting should contact the organizers.
