An international summer school on plasma physics, aimed primarily at students near the start of postgraduate courses, will be held at the Culham Science and Engineering Centre, UK, from 6 to 17 July 1998.

The summer school, the 35th in a series organized at Culham - a leading centre for research in plasma physics and nuclear fusion - is supported by the UK Atomic Energy Authority and the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom). It aims to provide an introduction to the fundamental principles of plasma physics, together with a broad understanding of its fields of application.

The school will bring together postgraduate students from around the world, for a series of lectures given by leading researchers. Topics to be covered by the course will include: fusion plasmas; solar, space and astrophysical plasmas; laser plasmas; industrial applications and generic topics such as computational techniques. No previous knowledge of the subject is assumed, but familiarity with electromagnetism and applied mathematics at first-degree level is helpful.
