Italy
The second annual Italian Telecommunications Congress will take place in Rome, Italy, from 20 to 23 April 1998. The event is organized by the Centre for EuroTelecomms.

The congress will allow participants to learn what progress has been made in liberalizing the Italian telecommunications market, as well as to understand the new regulatory regime and how the rights of new entrants will be protected. Looking at the market, participants will be able to see the degree of competition existing and the level of technological development present in the Italian market. The Italian mobile telecoms market will receive special attention, with participants able to hear of the plans of recent licensees and how they may affect the market.

Presentations will be given by government officials and major companies present in the Italian telecoms market. The European context will be provided by Robert Verrue, the European Commission's Director-General for Telecommunications, the Information Market and Exploitation of Research. Other presentations will be made by market analysts and other industry observers.
