A Europe-Latin America forum on "Water - clean technologies and sustainable development", supported by the EU's AL-INVEST programme, will be held in Bogota, Colombia, from 11 to 13 May 1998. The event is organized by the Association de Chercheurs pour l'Avancement des Sciences et Technologies en Colombie (ACASTC) in partnership with organizations from Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, The Netherlands and Spain.

The meeting will give European companies the opportunity to meet with representatives from some 30 Latin American companies. These companies would provide their European partners with direct access to Latin American markets in exchange for benefiting from the skills and techniques of European manufacturing.

The water sector offers strong potential for development in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The region represents a market of around US$ 6 billion, but also offers a platform for European enterprises to enter the wider Andean market.
