A workshop on the impact of the EU's planned Directive on the patenting of biotechnological inventions for the farm animal production and processing sector will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 29 May 1998. The event is organized by the European Farm Animal Industrial Platform (FAIP).

The Directive is expected to be adopted during 1998, and will have a clear impact on the farm animal industries sector. The aim of the workshop is to outline how the new Directive will influence research investments and developments in the sector in the years to come. Questions on the possibilities and scope of the new Directive and on the risks and possible consequences for the structure of farm animal industry and research will be addressed.

The workshop will give those involved in farm animal production and processing a better insight into the Directive and its consequences. It will allow participants to discuss questions concerning patents in the farm animal production and processing sector in an international setting with legal experts present.
