HYDROTOP '98, a conference and business forum dedicated to the water industry, will take place in Marseille, France, from 21 to 23 April 1998. The event will look at how water management will develop in the 21st century.

The conference will bring together over 650 participants, from industry, water authorities, local and regional authorities and governments. Speakers will provide news of the latest techniques and technologies in the water sector, as well as facilitating debate on the problems facing the sector. The main sessions to be held are as follows:

- Water geopolitics up to the year 2025;
- Water in the European Union;
- Water and industry;
- Microbiological quality of drinking water: Risks to public health;
- Desalination of brackish and sea waters;
- Dealing with the residues from treatment and purification of urban water.

The European water industries forum, supported by the EU's INTERPRISE programme, will take place in parallel to the conference. This will allow representatives from water sector companies in the EU and the Mediterranean region an opportunity to meet with a view to developing partnerships - whether commercial, technological or financial.
