A conference on "Telematics for disabled and elderly people - Exploitation of research results" will be held in London, UK, on 24 April 1998. The event is organized by the Institute of European Trade and Technology (IETT) and is aimed at managers in industrial research and IT, technical directors and chief consultants.

The seminar will present the results of six successful projects completed under the "Telematics for Disabled and Elderly People" sector of the Telematics Applications programme. The areas covered will be:

- Smart card and terminal usability requirements and needs;
- Telematics transport information system for disabled people;
- Mobility device for blind and elderly people interacting with computers;
- Textual and graphical user interfaces for blind people;
- Innovative approaches to the construction of communication aids for speech-impaired people;
- Hypermedia applications for blind people under unified user interfaces.

The event will focus on exploitation issues, strategies and practical solutions, examining how EU R&D can be turned into profit-making industrial applications. Technology suppliers and participants will also have the opportunity to explore commercial opportunities in pre-arranged one-to-one meetings.
