Man and river systems
This conference builds on results from several projects funded by the Environment and Climate programme, in particular the Biogeochemical nutrient cycling in large river systems (BINOCULARS) project. The purpose of the conference is to compare different approaches to the study of the relationship between biomass, nutrients, suspended solids and micropollutant levels and fluxes, on the one hand, and land use and hydraulic management of the catchment on the other.
The main topics to be covered by the five plenary sessions at the conference include:
- Eutrophication, nutrient dynamics and transfer;
- Organic pollution and oxygen depletion;
- Micropollutant contamination: transformation and transfer;
- Biological communities and river management;
- Erosion and sediment transport linked to land use.
Each topic will be presented by invited keynote speakers, with shorter oral presentations and then general discussion following.
