The Oceans'98 conference, organized by the Oceanic Engineering Society (IEEE/OES), will be held in Nice, France, from 28 September to 1 October 1998.

The theme of the conference will be engineering for sustainable use of oceans, also one of the themes of the EU's Marine Science and Technology (MAST) programme. Proposed technical sessions at the conference will focus on the following technical topics:

- Underwater acoustics;
- Oceanographic instrumentation;
- Underwater vehicles and systems;
- Positioning, navigation and control;
- Data acquisition and processing;
- Remote sensing;
- Signal, image, information processing;
- Coastal management and ocean resources.

In addition to the conference sessions, a large-scale exhibition will allow companies to present their latest products and services in the field of marine technologies.
