A workshop on the decommissioning and removal of offshore platforms, will be held in Aberdeen, United Kingdom, on 31 March 1998. This event, organized within the THERMIE demonstration component of the EU's Non-nuclear Energy research programme, aims to present and discuss new, innovative European technologies for the efficient decommissioning, removal and reutilization of offshore platforms and other offshore technology.

The workshop comes at a time when more and more production platforms in Europe are being abandoned, following the ceasing of oil or gas production, and will therefore explore possible solutions to deal with these redundant installations. It will be divided into three sessions, covering the following topics:

- Expectations and requirements of platform operators;
- Technical solutions from European industry;
- Technical options versus environmental and safety concerns.
