Les Rencontres de Stockholm

"Les Rencontres de Stockholm" will take place from 25 to 28 June 1998, in Stockholm, Sweden, the European Cultural Capital for 1998. The meeting is supported by the EU's KALEIDOSCOPE programme, which also gives financial support to the annual European Cultural Capital.
This annual colloquium will gather together almost 250 participants from different European cities and regions. "Les Rencontres", the Association of European Cities and Regions for Culture, was established in 1994 on the initiative of local cultural councillors. A plenary meeting is organized every year in the European Cultural Capital.
The main topics for discussion at this year's event will be employment and culture, in the context of culture and local policy. The programme will comprise workshops alternating with plenary sessions, and the "Declaration of Stockholm", a synthesis of propositions from local councillors, will be published at the end of the event. Also during the event elected representatives in charge of cultural policy in Swedish cities will hold a discussion on the theme "The cultural life of Swedish cities as an element of economic development".
