ECOMM 98 - European Conference on Mobility Management
This conference continues the objectives of the first ECOMM conference, held in Amsterdam in April 1997. The aims of the event are to identify and critically examine the latest developments in mobility management in Europe, North America and other developed countries. This is in order to assess what the approach is likely to achieve in reducing overall traffic levels, and to establish the role that it can most effectively play within a broader alignment of public and private sector partners.
Keynote addresses will be given by Glenda Jackson, junior Minister in the UK's Department of Transport, and Wim Blonk, Director of the EU's Transport research programme (European Commission, DG VII), and by a representative of UK industries in the field.
The MOMENTUM (Mobility Management for the Urban Environment) and MOSAIC (Mobility Strategy Applications in the Community) projects, supported by the EU under the Transport research programme, will also be presented.
The main topics to be addressed will include:
- Overview of Travel Demand Management (TDM) in the USA;
- The development of mobility management in Nottinghamshire, UK;
- Achieving local transport objectives through innovation and partnership;
- The approach of mobility management in Arnhem-Nijmegen, The Netherlands;
- Mobility management in a wider context;
- Monitoring mobility management in The Netherlands;
- Innovative approaches for mobility management.
A series of workshops will address the following subjects in greater depth:
- Marketing;
- Ride sharing;
- Commuter transport;
- Rural transport;
- Services and mobility;
- Legislation;
- Regional plans;
- Advisers and centres
- Land use and planning;
- Travel behaviour and information technology;
- School journeys;
- Pedestrians;
- New funding sources;
- Traffic restraints.
