The European Commission, DG XVII, has published a new brochure entitled "Pollution Control Technologies: Limiting the Environmental Impact of the Hydrocarbons Industry" within the demonstration (THERMIE) component of the EU's Non-nuclear Energy research programme (JOULE-THERMIE). The report looks at international oil pollution legislation and conventions, and examines some of the European technologies that are available to deal with oil spills on water and land, such as: - Separation techniques; - Produced water; - Drill cuttings; - Flaring; - Environmental modelling; - Detection and monitoring methods.
