The first issue of a new quarterly European Commission newsletter on European transport research has recently been issued. The aim of the newsletter is to raise awareness of transport research projects supported by the EU and is specifically designed to inform decision-makers, researchers and other interested parties about progress and achievements. The newsletter is produced by the EXTRA project, a new dissemination information action in the framework of the EU's TRANSPORT research programme. It also aims to promote innovation based on the swift application of the results of RTD actions, which will be given particular prominence under the upcoming Fifth RTD Framework Programme. Key features in the first edition of the newsletter include: - Summary of the aims of RTD in transport from European Transport Commissioner, Mr. Neil Kinnock; - Other sources of information on transport-related research, such as the Community Research and Development Information Service (CORDIS); - The role of transport research within the upcoming Fifth RTD Framework Programme; - Integrating transport systems for integrating Europe; - Case study - The Arctic Demonstration and Exploratory Voyage (ARCDEV) project; - Results from calls for proposals under the Fourth Framework Programme.
