The proceedings of the 1997 workshop on environmental technologies jointly organised by the European Commission, DG XII, and the Portuguese National Institute of Engineering and Industrial Technology have recently been published. The publication documents progress made in a total of 35 projects supported within the framework of the EU's Environment and Climate research programme which were presented during the workshop covering the following areas: - Life-cycle assessment; - Recycling technologies; - Treatment of hazardous waste; - Remediation of contaminated sites. In addition, the report includes descriptions and contact details for the following concerted actions: - CHAINET: chain analysis for environmental decision support; - ETCA: environmental technologies; - CLARINET: the contaminated land rehabilitation network; - BIOSET: biosensors for environmental technology; - TANNET: European network for environmental research in the leather industry.
