Improving multimedia resources for breast cancer diagnosis
The results of a project on improving multimedia resources for breast cancer diagnosis (BREAKIT), funded within the EU's INFO2000 programme for the stimulation of the production of high quality European multimedia content, are now available. The core objective of the project was to make available the experience of breast cancer pathologists for training and decision support in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. The project has produced an advanced multimedia resource for breast cancer diagnosis and prognosis, incorporating an image databank of tissue slides and best practice analysis procedures. It will be available via the Internet and a CD-ROM based training and assessment package. This will help address the current need in the medical community for continuing education and quick reference material while dealing with breast cancer pathology. It will also assist in the early detection and classification for effective and successful treatment and follow-up.
