The European Commission has recently granted a total of ECU 12.1 million to co-finance a total of 14 feasibility studies of gas and electricity network projects within the framework of the trans-European energy network guidelines. This represents the fifth decision to co-finance studies related to projects of common interest in the energy sector, which will be of a technical, economic and environmental nature

The electricity projects selected for Greece, Ireland and Italy, relate to the strengthening of internal electricity networks. A further study proposed by Germany will concern the operation of electricity interconnections with Central Europe. Other studies in the electricity sector will address new high voltage, direct current links between Central Europe and Scandinavia and in France the possibility of expanding the electricity network in the north and north-east of the country to Belgium and Germany will also be examined.

In the gas sector, two studies will examine gas storage in Denmark and Belgium and the gas infrastructures of Ireland and Greece will also be examined.
